Emotional Freedom Technique

Called a psychological acupressure technique, Emotional Freedom Technique, often shortened to ‘EFT’ is a meridian-based form of energy healing. It combines needle-free meridian therapy (e.g. acupressure) with mind-body medicine.

It is a very easy basic ‘recipe’ that can be learned in minutes. There are only two skills to learn in order to use EFT: the tapping locations and technique, and the formulation of reminder phrases about the problem you are seeking to address.

In EFT, certain meridian points are stimulated by tapping on points along them with the fingertips. Tapping with the fingertips is used to put kinetic energy into specific meridians on the head and chest while the subject thinks about his or her specific problem and voices reminder phrases about it. This addresses emotional issues that contribute to emotional distress as well as physical ailments.

Tapping is done about 5-7 times per location. Exact precision as to the tapping location is not necessary, practitioners say. The reminder phrases traditionally follow this model: “Even though I have this ____, I deeply and completely accept myself.” As an example, you might say, “Even though I have this anger towards my mother, I deeply and completely accept myself,” or “Even though I have this stiffness in my back, I deeply and completely accept myself,” or “Even though I have this memory of abuse, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

This combination of tapping the meridians while repeating the phrase clears the emotional block from the subject’s energy systems and physical body.

Properly done, this frequently reduces the therapeutic process from months or years down to hours or minutes. And, since emotional stress can contribute to pain, disease and physical ailments, we often find that EFT provides astonishing physical relief.

People report using EFT for a wide variety of psychological issues, from weight loss to increasing self-esteem, from depression relief to fear to healing past trauma. People also report relief from some physical ailments, especially where there is a strong mind-body component.
